What Is Microneedling?

Based on the science of epidermal collagen induction therapy, microneedling uses very small needles to create micro-injuries to the skin.

These micro-injuries induce a wound-healing response, which stimulates fibroblast production in the dermal layer (boosting collagen and elastin). This induced wound-healing process is our body’s own natural cell regeneration in acceleration. With the Eclipse Micropen we’re able to create hundreds of micro-channels for optimal penetration of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). microneedling is a great natural alternative to lasers and chemical peels with less downtime and discomfort.

What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is the result of centrifuging (separating) blood to remove the red blood cells. What is left is a high concentrate of hundreds of naturally-occurring proteins called growth factors, somatic cells, and other cytokines. These growth factors are essential for overall cell health and function, including signaling cells to regenerate and repair tissues. Our Med Spa strives to deliver the best Microneedling San Francisco has to offer, so we pair Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) with Microneedling. It has the potential to repair and regenerate damaged skin to restore and maintain a more radiant and youthful-looking you.

Microneedling VS. Dermal Rollers?

We did our homework before investing in our microneedling device and training. Here are some of the reasons why we choose microneedling over medical-grade derma-roller devices.

  • Adjustable depth of needle: Derma-rollers have a fixed depth, Microneedling offers an adjustable depth which is necessary to customize treatment for the various concerns of the skin (scarring is deeper than fine lines and wrinkles).
  • Sterile, single-use tips: The Eclipse Micropen has sterile, single-use, surgical-grade tips offering the highest level of safety. Many derma-roller or derma-needling devices must be sterilized by the practice after each use, increasing the possibility of contamination.
  • Penetration of the needle: With derma-rollers, the needle enters the skin at an angle, this increases the possibility of creating tears in the skin (not the beneficial micro-channels) which can lead to scarring. The Eclipse Micropen penetrates the skin vertically, creating accurately-sized micro-injuries.
  • Better results. With Eclipse’s safety and control features, we’re able to create predictable and consistent results.

What Areas of the Body Can Be Addressed with Microneedling?

Microneedling is a versatile treatment that can be applied to various areas of the body to address different skin concerns. The most common treatment areas include:

  • Face: Treats fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and improves overall skin texture.
  • Neck: Tightens and firms sagging skin.
  • Décolletage: Smooths crepey skin and minimizes signs of sun damage.
  • Hands: Reduces signs of aging, such as age spots and thinning skin.
  • Abdomen: Helps diminish the appearance of stretch marks and improves skin laxity.
  • Legs and Thighs: Treats stretch marks, scars, and cellulite for a smoother appearance.

Microneedling is effective in stimulating collagen production in any area where the skin shows signs of aging, damage, or irregular texture.

Microneedling Results

Microneedling results can vary depending on your skin type and the specific concerns being treated. Most patients see an improvement in their skin’s texture, tone, and overall appearance within a few days of treatment. As collagen production increases, you’ll notice smoother, firmer skin and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, scars, and other imperfections. For best results, a series of treatments is often recommended, with full results becoming apparent a few weeks after the final session.

Microneedling Recovery

Recovery from microneedling is relatively quick and involves minimal downtime. Most patients experience mild redness, swelling, or a sunburn-like sensation immediately after the treatment, which usually subsides within 24-48 hours. It’s essential to avoid direct sun exposure and wear a high-SPF sunscreen to protect your skin as it heals. You can typically resume your regular skincare routine within a few days, and makeup can be worn 24 hours after the procedure.
